I am a Turkish-born photographer and scientist living in Miami Beach. My journey began with a move to Denmark at the age of 27 to pursue a Ph.D. in Physics, marking the start of a diverse academic career spanning Europe and the USA. It was in Denmark where I met my husband, Jesper, with whom I have shared my life since 2019.
The Eye of the Observer: My passion for the visual arts has always been central to my identity. As a young man, I expressed my creativity through painting before transitioning to photography. My work in high-contrast black-and-white is deeply rooted in the traditions of fine art and street photography, drawing inspiration from masters such as Alex Webb, Fan Ho, and Saul Leiter.
The Precision of Form: I strive to capture reality as it is—unfiltered and raw. I recognize the camera as a tool of clinical precision used to interpret human emotion. I utilize techniques like intentional camera motion and long exposure to capture the kinetic "after-image" of a fleeting moment.
Order Within Chaos: For me, photography is both an artistic and an intellectual craft. It requires a scientist’s mastery over technique and an artist’s awareness of environment and emotion. In my work, I seek to strip away the "noise" of modern life to reveal the pure form and structure of a scene. By focusing on the interplay of light, shadow, and geometry, I search for the underlying order and harmony within urban chaos.
Viewed, Not Consumed: My objective is to document the "unrecognized" everyday: the dramatic play between light and shadow on a sidewalk, the complex geometry of a reflection, or the quiet truth of a stranger's expression. Through intentionality in composition and the inclusion of "layered obstructions," I challenge the viewer to move past mere consumption and engage in true observation.
I believe that art is the ultimate reflection of the artist’s mind. My photography is a testament to the intersection of observation, reason, and creative expression.
